Hours before New Year’s revelry, East Avenue hospital yet to treat 1st firecracker injury for 2018 holidays

No victim of firecracker-related injury has yet to be rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center hours before the New Year's Eve revelry on Monday.

According to Jam Sisante-Cayco's report on 24 Oras on Monday, the major government hospital has had no report of firecracker injury, ingestion and stray bullet since it started count on December 21.

Last year, the said hospital already recorded a few firecracker-related cases on Christmas Day.

"Pwedeng sabihing dahilan eh effective ang ating information campaign," hospital spokesman Dr. Willie Saludares said.

"At sa balita ko, tumataas na rin ang halaga ng paputok dito sa kalsada and 'yung panahon siguro dahilan ulan nang ulan walang makapagpaputok sa labas ng bahay," he added.

He said Executive Order 28, which limited the use of firecrackers, helped considerably in bringing down the number of firecracker-related injuries.

Only nine firecracker-related injury victims had so far been reported In Metro Manila over the holidays, the lowest tally in past years. —Joviland Rita/NB, GMA News
