PNP Highway Patrol Group short of at least 700 motorcycles, says official
The Philippine National Police's Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) is still short of at least 700 motorcycles, HPG head Chief Superintendent Roberto Fajardo said Friday.
Fajardo made the disclosure during the turnover of 50 units of BMW G310R motorcycles to the HPG which were donated by San Miguel Corp. led by its vice chairman, president and COO Ramon Ang.
"Ideally, mga 1,000 [motorcyles] ang kailangan] kasi mga 1,500 kami [na nasa HPG unit]. But we make do with what we have," Fajardo told reporters.

Fajardo said the HPG has only 300 motorcycle units, excluding the donated BMWs. Of this number, 100 are being used in the National Capital Region.
Based on the information on the BMW website, the BMW G310R sports a detailed aluminum swing arm which ensures lightness while its wide tires grip to the road.
Likewise, BMW describes this model as agile and easier to control since the low and longer swing arm "ensure more stability without unnecessarily increasing the wheelbase."

"For the meantime, we will use this in EDSA. It has been 50 years since we had this kind. This brand is more fuel efficient and better maneuverality," Fajardo said.
"Rest assured that the HPG will be more aggressive and will fulfill our mandate of serving and protecting the people," Fajardo added. — RSJ, GMA News
