Executives, other personalities pay respects at wake of GMA founding chairman Gilberto Duavit Sr.

Kapuso Network executives and stars attended the wake of GMA-7 founding chairman and former congressman Gilberto M. Duavit Sr. on Sunday.

According to Ivan Mayrina's Monday report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali, Duavit's Kapuso family and colleagues in public service recalled the life he led before passing away at the age of 84.

Duavit was called "Bibit" by those who were close to him.

"This one I have to say that as far as I know, during his stint in government, Bibit have never been accused of having committed any act involving corruption," said GMA Network Chairman of the Board and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.

"Bibit is a guy that you cannot say anything against him. He is very humble, simple, caring, helpful, and always available if you have any problem," GMA former president Menardo Jimenez earlier said on Saturday.

Incumbent and former officials in the government were also present in the wake.

Even former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III commended Duavit's outstanding public service as a former congressman.

"Napaka-professional. Napangalagaan niya 'yung appropriations committee. Hindi kami magkapartido, hindi kami magka-alyado pero wala akong masasabi kung paano niya pinalakad," he said.

Kapuso personalities both from the news and entertainment wings also took part in remembering Duavit.

His family expressed their gratitude to the visitors.

A necrological service will be held at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Monday.

His remains will afterwards be brought to the Duavit Residence Social Hall in Binangonan, Rizal and will stay there until Wednesday. —Dona Magsino/NB, GMA News
