Duterte: Ex-Defense chief Reyes took his life after Trillanes shamed him

Former Defense Secretary and Energy chief Angelo Reyes committed suicide after Senator Antonio Trillanes IV shamed him at a Senate hearing several years back, President Rodrigo Duterte said last Friday before the Filipino community in Papua New Guinea.

Duterte made the remark as he tried to justify the candidacy for a House seat of his son Paolo "Pulong", who he said would want to avenge Reyes' demise, aside from clearing his name which Trillanes also tarnished.

"Yung binastos niya [Trillanes] tapos the guy [Angie Reyes] tried to stand up and said, 'I just want to protect my dignity.' Tapos sinabi nito… 'I could not really believe it from a PMAer to a PMAer nauna ka.' Sabi niya [Trillanes] 'You sit down because you do not have any dignity',” Dutere said referring to the shaming episode at the Senate.

Then, Duterte said Reyes went to the cemetery, and at the tomb of his mother he took his life.

Reyes was accused of pocketing at least P50 million in "sendoff" money upon his retirement as military chief in 2001, which led to a Senate probe.

"Kaya pumunta doon sa cemetery ng nanay niya, nagpakamatay kasi napahiya, eh. Iyan si… Ayaw ko sanang ikwento ‘yon but si Pulong ang ano niyan gaganti talaga ‘yan. He will be running for congressman. Tabla sila diyan."

Magdalo is political-ISIS

Duterte also warned the people against Trillanes' Magdalo political party. "Be careful with Magdalo. Be careful of ‘yang partidong Magdalo. Ito ‘yung mga rebeldeng sundalo na nagkalat diyan sa Makati pati sa Peninsula Hotel. And they destroyed everything, parang ISIS ang mga buang."

Its members know nothing but kill, pick a fight, and shame people, the President said.

"Wala silang alam kung ‘di to kill, maghahamon, magbastos. Be careful again with military lalo na ‘yang mga rebelde tapos na-rehab because they were extended pardon by Aquino (former President Benigno III], ayon."

As they assumed power, they began to feel they are invincible, Duterte added.

But Paolo Duterte on Saturday said he is seeking justice, not revenge, against Trillanes.

"I honestly do not seek revenge. What I seek is justice," Paolo said. —LBG, GMA News
