DOLE releases wage rules for November holidays

Private sector employers were reminded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Tuesday to abide by the wage rules for the holidays this month.

November 1 and 2 were declared as special non-working holidays (All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day), while November 30 is a regular holiday (Bonifacio Day).

For November 30, employees who will not work shall be paid 100 percent of their daily salary.

Those who will report to work shall be paid 200 percent of their regular salary for that day for the first eight hours.

If the employees will work beyond eight hours, an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate on said day must be paid.

Moreover, if the employees worked on a regular holiday which falls on their rest day, an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate on the said day must be paid by the employer.

For special non-working holidays, on the other hand, such as November 1 and 2, the “no work, no pay” principle shall apply unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on a special day.

Employees who reported to work on a non-working holiday are entitled to an additional 30 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work.

Overtime work also entails an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate on said day.

Meanwhile, employees who will report for work on a special non-working holiday that falls on their rest day shall be paid an additional 50 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work.

If they will work longer than eight hours, 30 percent of their hourly rate on said day shall be added on their pay. — Dona Magsino/ LDF, GMA News
