Jinggoy seeks Senate return; wants brother JV to win
Former Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada filed his certificate of candidacy for the 2019 Senate polls on Tuesday accompanied by his father, former President and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.
This will mark Jinggoy’s first Senate bid since his term as senator expired in 2016.
Estrada will run under the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) party, the political party founded by his father.
“I am running under PMP because I will never abandon my father’s party,” Estrada said.
He did not name names, but his brother and incumbent Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito recently left PMP and joined the Nationalist People’s Coalition, the party which nominated Ejercito for the 2019 Senate race.
Ejercito and Estrada are sons of former Philippine leader now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.
Still, Jinggoy maintained he wants him and his brother to win the Senate race.
“Kahit binabatikos niya ako, kapatid ko pa rin siya. Kadugo ko siya. Isa lang ang tatay namin. Kung ako ang masusunod, gusto ko kaming dalawa ay manalo,” Estrada said.
Ejercito said the the other day when he filed his candidacy for the 2019 Senate elections that his untarnished name is his advantage in the 2019 polls.
Jinggoy is out on bail due to his pending P183-million plunder case in connection with the P10 billion pork barrel scam.
But he shrugged off his pending plunder charge, saying that he has been in the same situation before and still won.
“In 2004, I had a pending plunder case. At the time, it was not resolved yet. I was only acquitted in 2007. But it did not affect me and [I] won,” Estrada said. — RSJ, GMA News
