Senatorial aspirant slams Duterte’s drug war, rising prices of goods
Senior citizen Melchor Chavez, 67, was among those who filed a Certificate of Candidacy (COC) on the first day of filing at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Manila on Thursday.
This is his third try to bag a senatorial seat, said Chavez, who hails from Bagac, Bataan.
He vowed to help the poor and criticized the Duterte administration, saying that the government is not addressing such issues as soaring prices of basic goods.
Under the Duterte administration’s campaign against illegal narcotics, big-time drug lords must also pay the price, not the small-time drug suspects, Chavez said.
“Merong ginawa ang ating administrasyon na hindi kaaya-aya sa bayan, partikular ho ang namamatay nating mga kababayan. Ang akin hong pananaw ay dapat ho ‘yung namamatay ‘yung talagang drug lords,” Chavez said.
