Alejano says Makati court erred in ordering Trillanes' arrest

Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano on Wednesday said the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 erred when it ordered Senator Antonio Trillanes IV's arrest based on his failure to produce the application form for his amnesty.

"Mali in the sense na naghahanap sila ng wala naman talaga in the first place," Alejano said in an interview on Unang Balita.

Alejano and Trillanes, whose amnesty has been revoked by President Rodrigo Duterte, are both former military officers who participated in uprisings against the Arroyo administration.

Makati RTC Branch 150 handles Trillanes' rebellion charges in connection with the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege.

Judge Elmo Alameda said Trillanes' failure to present a copy of his application form, whether original or photocopy, means there's sufficient basis to say he really failed to file it.

In the interview, Alejano pointed out that applicants for amnesty — like applicants for government IDs — are not given copies of their application form once they submit it to the agency concerned.

"Kahit na sa mga ordinaryong proseso sa ating gobyerno, ID and certificates, walang binibigay na application form sa aplikante," he said.

"Tinatago niyo ba application form niyo for driver's license? I doubt kung meron kayong kopya ng application form in the first place dahil ang binibigay lang ay stub o resibo," Alejano added. —KBK, GMA News
