PDP-Laban signs cooperation deal with North Korea’s WPK

The ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), chaired by President Rodrigo Duterte, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Workers’ Party of Korea, headed by North Korea President Kim Jong-un.

Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, PDP Laban president, said the agreement would enrich the administration party.

“We will get to know better North Korea, its history, government set up, and people’s aspirations,” Pimentel said in a text message to GMA News Online.

PDP-Laban and WPK entered into the agreement to pursue and promote the profound friendship and fraternal bond that bind them based on the principles of trust and equality and guided by the idea of independence.

The political parties agreed to contribute to the promotion and expansion of their bilateral cooperation; and exchange congratulatory messages on important occasions including founding anniversaries.

They also agreed to conduct bilateral consultations and exchange of information on matters related to the party development, youth cooperation, and other areas they may deem necessary.

They will also conduct exchange visits by party delegations of various levels, organize meetings to boost bilateral initiatives, and undertake multilateral seminars, conferences, and roundtable dialogues on issues promoting regional and world peace and development.

The agreement was signed by Lutgardo Barbo, PDP-Laban national executive committee vice president and Ri Su Yong, WPK central committee vice chairman. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News
