PNP's 8 focus crimes decrease by 25%


The incidence rate of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) eight focus crimes have decreased by 25 percent from January to June this year as compared to the same period last year.

According to data from the PNP released on Sunday, the incidence rate of murder cases has decreased by 54 percent, from 832 in January to June 2017 to only 381 in the same period this year.

 


Meanwhile, homicide cases have also lessened by 45 percent, from 242 to 134, as well as physical injury, by 28 percent, and rape, by 11 percent.

All in all, crimes against persons have decreased by 32 percent in the last six months, from 3,755 cases in January to June 2017 to 2,535 in January to June 2018.

Meanwhile, robbery cases have diminished by 16 percent, from 1,512 to 1,266.

Theft cases have also decreased by 23 percent, as well as stealing of motorcycles, by 11 percent.

Only cases of carnapping increased, by eight percent, from 77 in January to June 2017 to 83 in the same period this year.

Overall, crimes against properties decreased by 20 percent, according to the PNP.

Two-year period

A different scenario, however, is seen in the incidence rate of crimes committed from July 2016 to June 2018 when compared to the same period two years prior.

Data from the PNP showed that murder cases increased by 112 percent, from 1,621 incidents in July 2014 to June 2016 to 3,435 in July 2016 to June 2018.

 


Homicide cases, however, decreased by two percent, as well as physical injury, by 42 percent, and rape, by 23 percent.

All crimes against properties also decreased --- robbery, by 60 percent, theft, by 56 percent, carnapping, by 76 percent and stealing of motorcycles, by 62 percent.

All in all, the incidence rate of the eight focus crimes decreased by 49 percent from July 2014 to June 2016 to July 2016 to June 2018. —Erwin Colcol/KG, GMA News
