CHED asks higher education institutions to accept ALS passers
The Commission on Higher Education on Thursday urged higher education institutions, both private and public, nationwide to accept the applications of those who completed the Alternative Learning System and passed the accreditation and equivalency test at the high school level.
In CHED Memorandum Order No. 10 dated June 11, 2018, the agency said “passers of previous A&E Tests HS level, and the November 2017, March 2018 and upcoming 2019 A&E Tests HS level, who are all High School Graduates of the old basic education curriculum for ALS…,” may be admitted as first students “subject to admission policies and requirements of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)”.
The commission also said HEIs may "require bridging programs for the general education component."
CHED said it issued the order after there were cases of HEIs not accepting ALS passers with Certifications with eligibility for entry into senior high school.
ALS passers are to present their certification based on the certificate of rating issued by the Department of Education. The rating should at least be 60 percent, CHED said.
The certification should likewise bear the signature of the schools division superintendent and the seal of the schools division office.
CHED said ALS passers may check with HEIs whose academic calendars start in August for enrollment, since some schools have already started classes for school year 2018-2019.
It added that ALS passers may also consider taking skills development programs offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority as an alternative option. —KG, GMA News
