Election period for barangay, SK polls begins Saturday, April 14, 2018

The election period in connection with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections starts Saturday, April 14.

The Commission on Elections said this coincides with the start of the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs).

The Comelec will start receiving COCs at 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. of April 20.

On Friday, the Comelec reminded the public that during the election period, it is prohibited to bear, carry and transport firearms and other deadly weapons. One also cannot engage the services of security personnel or bodyguards.

The public, however, can apply for an exemption with the Comelec.

The gun ban takes effect at 12:01am of April 14. To ensure that it is strictly implemented, the Comelec and the Philippine National Police will set up checkpoints nationwide.

Elections will be held on May 14.
