Enrile in prosecution panel a huge boost vs. Sereno, IBP exec says

An official of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Monday said the expertise of former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile would really help the prosecution panel during the looming Senate impeachment trial of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

"Makakatulong 'yan sa pabor ng prosecution team sapagkat si dating senador Enrile naman ay malawak ang kanyang experience at kaalaman sa batas," vice chairman of IBP,Attorney Domingo Egon Cayosa said in an interview on Balitanghali.

"Siya ay naging chair na rin ng isang impeachment court. So alam na 'yung pasikot-sikot. Merong epekto 'yan," he added.

It was disclosed by House Committee on Justice chairman Reynaldo Umali that Enrile is being eyed to be an adviser of the prosecution team.

Enrile was the presiding judge during the impeachment trial of the late Chief Justice Renato Corona, who was found guilty of failure to disclose his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).

The lawmaker said Enrile's experience in presiding the impeachment trial against Corona makes the former senator a "valuable" part of the private prosecution team. —Anna Felicia Bajo/NB, GMA News
