Red tide warning up over several coastal areas in PHL
State fisheries authority on Thursday warned against collecting and eating shellfish in several marine areas in the country infested with red tide toxin.
In its red tide bulletin dated February 1, 2018, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said that shellfish in affected marine areas are not safe for human consumption.
It said that based on BFAR's latest laboratory results show that shellfish collected in Irong-Irong Bay in Western Samar; coastal waters of Leyte and Carigara Bay in Leyte; Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur; Honda Bay, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan; coastal waters of Milagros in Masbate; and coastal waters of Bataan (Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Orani, Abucay and Samal) are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that exceeds regulatory limit.
But it said that Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar is now free of the toxic red tide.
It also encouraged citizens to visit BFAR website for regular updates and complete red tide bulletins. —LBG, GMA News
