Duterte names members of body to review 1987 Charter, picks ex-SC chief Puno as chair
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed former Supreme Court Justice Reynato Puno as chairperson of the consultative committee that will review the 1987 Constitution.
He also appointed the following 18 members of the committee:
- former Senate President Aquilino "Nene" Quilinging Pimentel Jr.
- Victor S. de la Serna
- Ranhilio Callangan Aquino
- Virgilio Castillo Bautista
- Rodolfo Dia Robles
- Antonio Eduardo B. Nachura, retired SC associate justice
- Julio Cabral Teehankee
- Bienvenido L. Reyes, retired SC associate justice
- Eddi Mapag Alih
- Edmund Soriano Tayao
- Ali Pangalian M. Balindong
- Laurence B. Wacnang
- Roan I. Libarios, former Integrated Bar of the Philippines president
- Reuben Rabe Canoy
- Arthur N. Aguilar
- Susan U. Ubalde-Ordinario
- Antonio Biñas Arellano
- Randolph Climaco Parcasio
Duterte signed their appointment papers on January 24, but Malacañang released the papers on Thursday.
Duterte signed Executive Order No. 10 creating the 25-member consultative committee tasked to review the 1987 Constitution on December 7, 2016.
The committee will be under the Office of the President. Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, or his representative, is expected to act as an observer during committee deliberations.
The EO said that the committee would be composed of not more than 25 members who will study, conduct consultations, and review the provisions of the 1987 Constitution. — MDM, GMA News
