NDRRMC: Gov’t bracing for new cyclone before New Year’s Eve
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is now preparing for another weather disturbance expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility before the year ends.
“There will be an emergency response preparedness this afternoon, 3 p.m., para sa pagbabanta ng isa pang sama ng taya ng panahon na maaring pumasok sa Philippine area of responsibility bago matapos ang taon,” NDRRMC spokesperson Romina Marasigan said in a press conference Thursday.
She said the NDRRMC would like to ensure that its member-agencies are prepared and the assistance that will be cascaded to the people.
“Maghahanda muli ang ating bansa sa panibagong banta kaya we would like to be sure sa paghahanda ng lahat ng ahensiya na mangunguna sa pagbibigay ng ayuda sa ating mga kababayan. Magsisiguro na rin na ating babala at pagbibigay ng abiso ay makakarating sa ating mga kababayan,” she said.
She said the weather disturbance would most likely enter the country around December 30 and 31 and will be named Wilma.
She said there is no latest forecast on its path yet but models they are looking on showed that it might affect Northern Mindanao which has been affected by Vinta.
“Walang exact o latest na forecast pero may initial models na tinitignan at pinag aaralan at maaring tamaan ang Northern Mindanao muli,” she said.
“Dalawa kasi ang maaring mangyari diyan, kapag Northern Mindanao tatahakin kasi niya ang southern part of Visayas and then paakyat siya. Meron naman na westward ang daan so tatawirin muli yung areas na na-batter na ng Vinta,” she added. —NB, GMA News
