Thousands call for national healing at Sunday event

People from all walks of life marched towards the People Power Monument on Sunday afternoon to amplify calls to stop the killings under the Duterte administration.

After a mass held at EDSA Shrine, church and youth groups and families of alleged victims of extrajudicial killings joined the peaceful rally, calling for the "healing of the whole nation."

A candle-lighting ceremony led by Archbishop Socrates Villegas was followed by performances from various groups.

The personalities who attended the event include Senators Antonio Trillanes, Franklin Drilon, Bam Aquino, Risa Hontiveros and Francis Pangilinan, as well as Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano.

Brother Armin Luistro and singers Jim  Paredes and Leah Navarro were also in attendance.

There were a number of signs at the event. Some slammed the administration: "Digong Pangulo ng mga troll," "Buang lang maniniwala kay Rodrigo," "DuterteResignNow," "Duterte pls sign the waiver."

Others called for an end to EJKs and expressed support for the military.

The police estimated the crowd size at 4,000, lower than the organizers' count of 20,000 attendees.  — BM, GMA News
