SWS: 65% of Pinoys don’t want cops to get cash incentives for drug-related slays

Majority of Filipinos believed that policemen should not get cash rewards for drug-related killings, according to the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) survey.

According to Vladymir Licudine, SWS deputy director for Survey Design, Analysis and Training, 65 percent of the respondents disagreed with the test statement, "Tama lang na bigyan ng perang pabuya ang mga pulis sa bawat napapatay nilang mga taong diumano'y sangkot sa paggamit o pagbebenta ng illegal na droga?"

"'Yung tsismis na may cash incentive, di gusto ng tao 'yon. Ang sabi ng tao na hindi tama... they disagree sa pagbibigay ng cash incentive doon sa mga pulis for every person they killed related to the drug war," Licudine said during his presentation on Wednesday.

Licudine said only 15 percent agreed with cash incentives, while 20 percent remained undecided.

The survey showed that people in Metro Manila and other urban areas opposed giving cash rewards the most, with 73 percent and 68 percent, respectively, of the respondents disagreeing with the test statement.

"Disagreement  to the test statement is higher in NCR (National Capital Region) and Luzon and among urban respondents and among those who are more educated than those who are less educated," Licudine added.

The SWS survey was conducted from September 23 to 27 among 1,200 adults nationwide. — MDM, GMA News
