Lifestyle check on husband Mans Carpio ‘illogical’, Sara Duterte says

President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Tuesday said that a supposedly proposed lifestyle check on her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, would be illogical since the allegations against him were only based on hearsay.

A draft report of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee recommended lifestyle checks Duterte's son and Sara's brother Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, and Carpio, after they were linked to the so-called Davao Group allegedly involved in smuggling as Senator Antonio Trillanes IV claimed.

"I think it is premature to discuss anything based on a DRAFT report," Sara said in a statement.

"If indeed the recommendation of a lifestyle check on Atty. Mans find its way into the final committee report. My opinion is, it is an unreasonable recommendation mainly because it is based on 'chismis' of Mr. Taguba and from the 'lies' of Trillanes," she added.

Sara, however, urged the staunch critic of the President not to "fish" evidence from their family to justify his allegations.

"Trillanes is a paid troll. He is fishing for information with his lies and accusations. If indeed he is correct, bakit siya kukuha ng ebidensiya sa amin?" Sara said.

"Kasi alam niya hindi totoo ang sinasabi niya. Tapos na ang election, may nanalo na, mag antay nalang siya ng election sa 2022 ulit," she added.

Nonetheless, Sara said that she welcomed the probe of the Office of the Ombudsman on her family's wealth in response to Trillanes' complaint against the President.

"Be that as it may, I'd like to reiterate that I welcome the investigation by the Ombudsman since this will allow us to answer accusations and I also welcome a lifestyle check on my husband so that the issue is put to rest," Sara said.

Carpio is the nephew of Ombudsman Conchita Caprio Morales, who already inhibited from the investigation. —NB, GMA News
