Floods in some areas subside as Maring crosses West PHL Sea —NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday said flooding in some areas have started to subside as Tropical Storm Maring is expected to exit tonight.

"Ang epekto naman talaga sa atin ay yung flooding dito sa Calabarzon. May naitala na six incidents of flooding, one in Mimaropa, tsaka may mga flooded areas din sa NCR na yung iba naman ay subsided na. So 'yan yung pinsala na tinitingnan natin," NDRRMC Executive Director and Civil Defense Administrator Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad said in an interview on Unang Balita.

Jalad said they are still monitoring the effects of Maring, noting that they are expecting local government units and their regional offices to do the same and respond to the needs of the public.

"Nasa pagmo-monitor pa rin tayo ng epekto nito pero maganda naman ang forecast na galing sa PAGASA, light to moderate rains na lang ang inaasahan dito sa Calabarzon and NCR and meron nang moderate to occasional and heavy diyan sa Region 3 dahil dito kay Maring," he said.

"So inaasahan natin yung mga local government units at tsaka regional offices natin na patuloy nilang respondehan ang magiging epekto nito, lalo na dito sa Calabarzon," he added.

Four people have been reported dead while five are still missing due to landslide and widespread flooding caused by heavy rains from Maring.

PAGASA's last update earlier today said Maring was already over the West Philippine Sea after crossing Luzon for more than 12 hours on Tuesday.

The storm is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday night or Thursday morning. —Marlly Rome Bondoc/ALG, GMA News
