Maute patriarch dead — BJMP
Cayamora Maute, the father of the terrorist brothers who led the attack on Marawi City, has died while in detention, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology said Sunday.
According to BJMP spokesperson Senior Inspector Xavier Solda, Maute was "in critical condition" when he was rushed from the special intensive care unit at Camp Bagong Diwa at around 3 p.m. to Taguig-Pateros District Hospital, where he later died.
"Tumaas yung BP [blood pressure] niya and then maya-maya, nahirapan na siyang huminga, and then bumaba na rin 'yung pulso niya, so ginawa ng mga nurse namin and then sa advice ng aming doctor, sinugod na siya sa hospital," Solda told dzBB.
Maute, who suffered from diabetes, hypertension and hepatitis, was rushed to the hospital by the BJMP tactical team and "augmentation" from Philippine National Police, said Solda.
Maute's relatives brought his body to Quiapo Mosque, according to a report by GMA's Mav Gonzales.

Solda added that a manifest had been filed in court for Maute to have a regular physical check-up, but the BJMP has yet to receive approval.
In a statement, Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Eduardo Año said that they only learned of Maute's death from the media.
"This is an unfortunate incident for his family; but more so to the victims of terrorism in Marawi and their relatives who are awaiting justice and expecting that Mr. Cayamora would answer/atone for his involvement in the Marawi rebellion, he said.
Cayamora was arrested last June 6 at a checkpoint in Davao City.
His wife Ominta Romato Maute, who also goes by the alias Farhana, was arrested a few days later and is also detained in Camp Bagong Diwa.
