PDEA to verify whether prosecutor Cañete was on Duterte’s drug list

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday said it will verify Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon’s information that Caloocan City Senior Assistant Prosecutor Darwin Cañete is on President Rodrigo Duterte’s list of top drug suspects.

During the Senate public order committee hearing on the death of Kian Loyd Delos Santos, Drilon asked Cañete if there is any truth to the information that he was part of the drug list “originally.”

“I have no knowledge of that... Nobody told me and I was not provided a copy of that,” Cañete answered.

PDEA Deputy Director General Ricardo Quinto said they “will check” whether Drilon’s information is accurate.

Drilon earlier sought the relief of Cañete, following his "prejudiced statements" on the case of Delos Santos.

Cañete was quoted as saying that Delos Santos, a Grade 12 student killed during an Oplan Galugad operation, could not be "super innocent."

"His frame of mind and line of reasoning are very disturbing. We must never tolerate such behavior of a fiscal that imperils the administration of justice in the country," Drilon earlier said. —JST/KVD, GMA News
