Wasp sting blamed for ex-TV anchor's death

A former television anchor died of sepsis as a complication of wasp sting, a "24 Oras" report said on Friday.

The report said Nikka Alejar, a resident of San Mateo, Rizal, was watering plants in her garden last April when she was stung by a wasp. She was then hospitalized after her immune system was affected.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health reminded the public not to ignore insect bites.

"Sa ibang mga tao parang localized reaction lang siya sa lugar ng kagat but for others it can be a systemic, 'yung buong katawan at pwedeng ikamatay depende doon sa sensitivity ng taong nakagat," said Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial.
