Marvin Marcos reinstated because he might squeal on Duterte —Trillanes
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV believes President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the reinstatement of Supt. Marvin Marcos because the officer could reveal the Chief Executive's role in the murder of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa, Sr.
In a statement, Trillanes said Marcos and his men were set free and given back their badges and guns “so they could murder again with impunity.”
“Why? Because Duterte fears that these policemen might rat out on him for what they know about his involvement in the Espinosa murder,” Trillanes said.
Trillanes earlier claimed that Marcos, along with his batch mates at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class 1996 are part of the so-called “Philippine Death Squad” executing extrajudicial killings in the country.
Trillanes recalled the previous admission of Duterte that he ordered PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa to reinstate Marcos to his post after being ordered relieved over the cop’s supposed involvement in illegal drug trade.
“It was Duterte himself who ordered Dela Rosa for their immediate reinstatement. Then just a few weeks after, Espinosa ended up getting murdered by Marcos' group,” the senator said.
Duterte said then that he only wanted to “keep track” of Marcos’ movements.
Marcos and his men were able to walk out of detention last month after the Justice department downgraded the murder charges to homicide, a bailable case.
Marcos has been appointed head of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-SOCCKSARGEN, a day after Duterte said he wants him reinstated despite the criminal charges he is facing over Espinosa’s death.
Espinosa and another inmate, Raul Yap, died after allegedly putting up a fight against policemen serving search warrants inside the Leyte Sub-Provincial Jail in Baybay City on November 5. —NB, GMA News
