93 of 107 inmates freed by Maute group in Marawi still at large —BJMP

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Tuesday said it has deployed teams of trackers around the country to locate 93 inmates released by the Maute group during its attack in Marawi City last month.

BJMP spokesman Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said that authorities have so far only accounted for 14 of the 107 inmates freed by the local terror group.

Solda said they are concentrating their efforts in Mindanao to recapture the rest.

He said trackers were also deployed in Luzon and Visayas.

Solda added that they have approached relatives and urged them to convince the escaped inmates to surrender.

Among the facilities attacked by the Maute group on May 23 were the Marawi City Jail and the Malabang District Jail.

The terrorists disarmed and tied up 12 jail officers of the facilities and released the inmates.

Firearms, two motorcycles, two cars, a firetruck and mobile phones were seized by the terrorists from the jail facilities during the attack. —report from Rodil Vega/ALG/KVD, GMA News
