Typhoon 'Goring' continues to intensify, move west-northwest
Typhoon âGoring" (international code name: Wipha) intensified further and accelerated slightly as it continued on its path towards Taiwan Monday night. In its advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-asa) said âGoring" was 490 kms northeast of Batanes as of 10 p.m. Monday. âGoring" packed maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph, and was moving west-northwest at 19 kph. By Tuesday evening, it is expected to be 590 kms north of Batanes or 110 kms north-northeast of Taipei, Taiwan. Pag-asa maintained the typhoon will not directly affect any part of the country, but will still enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over Central and Southern Luzon and Visayas. It advised residents in low lying-areas and near mountain slopes to take all the necessary precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides. - GMANews.TV
