Duterte's common-law wife is official hostess of ASEAN leaders' spouses

President Rodrigo Duterte's common-law wife Cielito "Honeylet" Avanceña is the official hostess of the spouses of the ASEAN leaders, Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr. told reporters on Monday.

Six spouses are scheduled to arrive in the Philippines for the ASEAN Summit.

"There will be a spouses' program. I understand that they will be shown the Metropolitan Museum. And they will be hosted to a lunch by Madame Honeylet," Paynor said.

Paynor said it was Duterte who personally decided to give Avanceña the task.

"She is being ably assisted by other agencies including the NCCA (National Commission for Culture and the Arts), the Metropolitan Musuem, the internal house affairs of the Malacañang, and the social secretary," he said.

Avanceña joined Duterte when the Philippines hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie in Manila and Davao cities for an official visit in January.

Duterte's common-law wife also accompanied Akie when she visited a Japanese cemetery in Davao City.

The President was married to Elizabeth Abellana Zimmerman. They have three children -- Baste, Inday Sara and Paolo.

Duterte, meanwhile, is currently living with Avanceña. Their only daughter is named Veronica. —ALG, GMA News
