Korean police to set up 3 to 7 more help desks in PHL, says Bato

The Korean National Police Agency is planning to set up three to seven more police help desks in the Philippines to cater to the concerns of their nationals, following recent crime incidents that victimized Koreans.

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said this was mentioned by Korea National Police Agency deputy commissioner General Kim Kiu Chan during their meeting on February 14.

"Sabi ng Korean National Police Agency, 'yung counterpart ko [na] nagpunta dito, nag-usap kami, dadagdagan pa daw nila ng another 3 to 7 police desks para mag-cater talaga sa problema ng mga Koreano," he told reporters on Friday.

At present,  there are seven existing Korean police desks in the country located in areas where there is large concentration of Koreans, among them Cebu, Boracay, Angeles City in Pampanga, Davao, Subic and Baguio.

Dela Rosa said Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda promised to provide an interpreter to the help desks in her province to help Koreans lodge their complaint.

Dela Rosa on Wednesday attended a consultative meeting with the Korean community and local officials to prevent a case similar to the killing of Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo from happening again.

Weeks after the kidnapping and subsequent killing of Jee allegedly by rogue cops in October last year, three Korean tourists also fell victims to police abuse in Pampanga. —KBK, GMA News
