Napolcom approves new dri-fit athletic uniform for cops

The National Police Commission has approved a new design and material for the athletic uniform of the commissioned and non-commissioned officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Chief Inspector Jun Antonio Galicia, chief of the clothing section of the Directorate for Research and Development, said the changes were made following requests from PNP personnel.

“May comment ang personnel on the ground na nagre-request na mag-design o mag-improve ang uniform na fit for search and rescue operations. Kapag nagsasagawa daw ng search and rescue ay nabababad sila sa lamig dahil hindi agad natutuyo ang damit kaya nagkakasakit sila,” Galicia said in a briefing.

The new athletic uniform is expected to be released by March next year once it is approved by the command group and PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa.

“Gagawa kami ng memorandum for the approval of the command group and the chief PNP. Once approved by the command group and chief PNP, approximately after three months, March next year, mari-release na ito,” he said.

He said the new athletic uniform will be made of dri-fit material and will now have blue accent in the shoulder and cuff for commissioned officers and blue accent at the cuff for non-commissioned officers. It is composed of a shirt (P350), shorts (P550), and jogging pants (P650).

The present athletic uniform uses cotton fabric which takes longer time to dry.

Galicia said Napolcom Resolution Number 2016-742 states the amendment to the minimum standard specifications and intends to change the design, material, and color of the commission and non-commissioned personnel's athletic uniform particularly removing the identification features at the back of shirt above the “Pulis” markings.

He said the athletic uniform is used in athletic activities, physical fitness test, fun run and other similar activities.

He said they encourage all suppliers to apply for certificate of conformity which allows their office to test the fabric that will be used.

Galicia said they will conduct information dissemination with the different offices at the PNP for the list of authorized suppliers where the new uniforms can be bought.

“Magkakaroon ng dissemination sa offices kung saan naroon ang listahan ng authorized supplier na doon sila bibili,” he said.

He said they will issue a certificate of distributorship for the other suppliers in other regions.

To ensure that only PNP personnel will purchase the athletic uniform, Galicia said they instructed the suppliers to have a log book where the name, rank, badge number of the person buying the item, the item to be bought, and quantity will be written.

“Binibigay namin ng instruction yung supplier na magkaroon ng logbook  ng rank and name, badge number, quantity ng item, at kung ano yung item na bibilhin to ensure na yung bibili ay PNP personnel at malalaman namin kung sino,” he said. —ALG, GMA News
