Duterte not satisfied with Yolanda housing efforts

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday criticized the government's rehabilitation efforts for the survivors of 2013's supertyphoon Yolanda, especially on providing shelters.

Speaking in a mass grave for victims of Yolanda in Tacloban City, the President asked why only a few houses have been built for the displaced residents.

"Three years after, iilang tao pa lang nakatira sa bunkhouses? It’s BS to me. I am not satisfied. Three years, wala pay nakabalhin kaayo [only a few moved to a house]," Duterte said.

"Iyang houses na iyan, 'pag hindi matapos susunod na buwan, gawan mo na lang ng crematorium," the President later said in jest.

Duterte then apologized to the survivors for the delay.

"Ako po ay nanghihingi ng tawad sa inyo," he said.

He tasked presidential assistant for Visayas Michael Diño and Vice President Leni Robredo to fast-track the housing projects.

"In the fullness of God's time, I'll be back December. By December, gusto ko makalipat na silang lahat," the President said. —ALG, GMA News
