Senate passes resolution honoring Miriam Santiago

The Senate on Monday passed a resolution expressing its condolences on the death of the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.

All 24 senators present at the session were made authors of Resolution 179 filed by Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, expressing the “profound sympathy and sincere condolences of the Senate.”

Sponsoring the resolution, Pimentel said Santiago served the government with “sheer hard work and dedication.”

Pimentel was a student of Santiago in Constitutional Law at the University of the Philippines College of Law.

“As a student of law, [she’s the] best teacher we’ve ever had...Ma’am Miriam challenged us to do our best because she wanted us to be the best,” Pimentel said.

Santiago died “peacefully in her sleep” Thursday morning at the age of 71 while confined at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City. —KBK, GMA News
