Aguirre: Missing cash from Bilibid drug raid went to De Lima

Citing the claim of an unnamed witness, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Wednesday said Sen. Leila De Lima got the missing P300 million cash seized during the raid at the New Bilibid Prison in December 2014.

Aguirre earlier said two witnesses – inmate and an intelligence officer – discredited reports that only P1.6 million cash instead of more than P300 million was confiscated from prisoners housed in the maximum security compound during the raid on Dec. 15, 2014.

Asked where the missing cash went, Aguirre, quoting the witness, said: "Kay Secretary De Lima daw nga."

"Yan ang sagutin mo Secretary De Lima. Masyado kang yakyak ng yakyak," Aguirre said.

"Kapag ganoon ang tao, nawawala na sa katwiran. Hindi ka pwedeng magdepensa sa sarili nang wala kang pruweba," he added.

De Lima was justice secretary when the raid took place.

Aguirre also said the witness told President Rodrigo Duterte about the missing money in a letter dated August 4.

De Lima has been accused of tolerating drug syndicates inside the national penitentiary in exchange for large sums of money to bankroll her senatorial campaign this year.

She has repeatedly the denied the charges.

On Tuesday, De Lima branded as a 'fantastic tale' allegations that more than P300 million is missing from the cash seized during the December 2014 raid.

“Ang dami na nilang kino-concoct na mga fantastic tale. What? How many million? Oh my, God. Sino na naman yung witness na ‘yan? Sino na naman ‘yan?” De Lima said.

“Fantastic, fantastic. Tanungin niyo na lang lahat ng mga agencies involved in the operations kung totoo yan. Wala pong ganun. Anong P300M?” she added. — RSJ, GMA News
