Dureza welcomes temporary release of Tiamzon couple for Norway peace talks

Presidential peace adviser Secretary Jesus Dureza has welcomed the Manila court's decision allowing communist leaders Benito and Wilma Tiamzon to post bail and join the incoming peace talks in Oslo, Norway.

In his statement released by Malacañang on Friday, Dureza pointed out the couple's role in the peace talks.

"We welcome the court's ruling to enable the Tiamson's to participate in the peace negotiations," he said.

"The couple occupies a strategic leadership role in the talks as high ranking leaders of the Communist Party of the Phil and their participation ensures an inclusive outcome, hopefully to end conflict and bring about comprehensive and sustainable peace throughout the land, as envisioned by President Duterte and his administration," Dureza stressed.

Earlier in the day, the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 32 set the couple's bail at P100,000 each.

Also allowed to post bail on Friday were Rafael Baylosis and Adelberto Silva.
