Bulacan mayor on Duterte’s drug-list surfaces to clear name
Hours after President Rodrigo Duterte read out the list of supposed personalities involved in illegal drugs trade, one the mayors named showed up at the national police headquarters to deny the allegation against him.
A report on Super Radyo dzBB said Mayor Goto Violago of San Rafael, Bulacan showed up Sunday morning at Camp Crame.
Violago told dzBB in an earlier interview that he was shocked when he heard his name read out by Duterte.
He was also quoted as saying in a phone interview, "latang-lata ako nang marinig ko ang aking pangalan."
According to him, he has been a crusader against illegal drugs since he entered politics as a brangay chairman until he rose up the ranks to become mayor.
In fact, he said, "nagpasuko na ako ng ng halos 1,000 drug personalities sa San Rafael kamakailan."
He said he is ready to face investigation to clear his name.
As of posting time, Violago was undergoing police process with the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
Duterte, who was in Davao City early Sunday morning visiting the wake of soldiers killed fighting communist insurgents, read out a list of government officials allegedly involved in the illegal drugs trade.
