Cardinal Vidal, Sonny Belmonte visit Duterte

Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal and House Speaker Sonny Belmonte were among those who paid President Rodrigo Duterte a visit on Wednesday, a report on Unang Balita on Thursday said.

Duterte met Cardinal Vidal warmly at the Music Room of Malacañang and kissed his hand.

Cardinal Vidal was accompanied by Supreme Court Associate Justice Jose Mendoza during the courtesy call.

Duterte had earlier criticized the Catholic Church and its bishops for alleged sins of the clergy. He also called them out for allegedly approaching government for favors.

House Speaker Feliciano "Sonny" Belmonte Jr. also paid Duterte a visit at the Palace, together with his daughter, Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte.
