Bisaya-speaking Belgian ready to cook monggo for Duterte
DAVAO CITY—A Bisaya-speaking Belgian chef is ready to cook for incoming president Rodrigo Duterte.
Peter de Cauwer, who has been living in Davao City with his Filipino wife, said he was prepared to cook anything for the country's new leader.
While he's a master chef and a baker, Cauwer is expected to whip up common Filipino fare such as fried galunggong, inununan or fish paksiw, and monggo soup.
"Kilala ninyo ako. Isang ulam, kanin, sabaw. Kapag pinaradahan ninyo ako ng marami, ayoko. Nawawala tuloy ang gana ko," Duterte said.
During an exchange witnessed by reporters, Duterte asked Cauwer in Cebuano if he knew how to cook monggo.
"Kabalo ka magluto ug monggo [Marunong ka ba magluto ng monggo]?" De Cauwer was asked.
He replied: "Siyempre. Walang problema.... Anything."
Will he be the final Malacañang chef?
"He is applying," Duterte said.
Aside from cooking for the incoming president, De Cauwer said he also wanted to be part of securing Duterte.
"I want to protect him kasi maybe someone will put poison in his food," he said. —NB, GMA News
