Thousands of Duterte supporters converge in Luneta for final rally

The final day has come. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has concluded his presidential bid in Rizal Park, Manila on Saturday.

Supporters began to arrive at the Quirino Grandstand mid-afternoon wearing red and statement shirts and other campaign paraphernalia.

As of 6 p.m., the Natinoal Capital Region Police Office has estimated the crowd in Rixal Park (formerly Luneta) at 300,000.

Activities on stage began as early as 4 p.m. and at 5 p.m., soprano Myramae Meneses sang the national anthem. Meneses did the same during Duterte's kick off rally on February 9 in Tondo, Manila.

Performers included singers Robert Seña, Isay Alvarez, and RJ Jacinto as well as internet sensation Moymoy Palaboy.

Scorching heat was initially one of the biggest problems at the venue early as some of the supporters were taken to the medical teams deployed around the area.

The miting de avance is slated to end at 11 p.m. —ALG, GMA News
