SINGAPORE - Unbeaten Singaporean prospect Benedict Ang pulled an attempt to intimidate Jimmy Yabo of Cebu during the face-off for ONE Championship: Ascent to Power on Thursday night, but the Filipino mixed martial arts fighter simply shrugged it off and smiled backstage.
Yabo, 35, is coming off a 21-second demolition of Bashir Amad, a highly touted mixed martial arts fighter from Pakistan. Yabo, who won all of his five fights by stoppage, remained calm after the face-off and simply dismissed Ang's effort to heat things up.
"It was nothing," answered Yabo (5-2) when asked if Ang managed to get into his head.
"I'm still the same calm fighter. [As for my preparations] I didn't look for his weaknesses, for me he is a threat, I shouldn't be overconfident and I should focus."
Ang, a 20-year-old up and coming fighter from Singapore, will enter the cage come fight night as a palpable home crowd favorite.
Yabo is making no promises to be as impressive as his last fight, but vows to give it all he's got when the bell rings.
"We can't tell what's going to happen in the fight," said Yabo.
"What I'm going to do is give my best then add some prayers to it." — APG, GMA News
