Dalisay resigns as NFA chief
Renan Dalisay confirmed on Wednesday he has resigned as administrator of the National Food Authority (NFA), but his resignation has not yet been accepted by President Benigno Aquino III.
He filed his letter of resignation at Malacañang on April 15.
Dalisay noted he is leaving the NFA due to personal and medical reasons.
"It's a bit personal... and medical. I just have to go through some medical procedure na baka 'pag hindi ko pa gawin baka maging mas malaki ang epekto sa health," Dalisay told reporters on the sidelines of the Food Guardian Volunteer Program launch at SM City North EDSA Skydome.
He declined to give further details regarding the medical procedure.
The NFA Council will temporarily take over his duties before recommending a new administrator to the President.
Dalisay assumed his post in November 2014, after former NFA administrator Arthur Juan quit three months into the job.
Prior to heading the NFA, Dalisay served as a Special Assistant for NFA Concerns to former Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization Secretary Francis Pangilinan.
When Pangilinan was a senator and and co-chairman of the Congressional Oversight Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization, he picked Dalisay as his chief of staff.
The NFA launched the Food Guardian Volunteer Program in partnership with the National Youth Commission to promote responsible food handling procedures and ensure the accessibility, affordability, and visibility of rice in the market.
Volunteers can sign up online through their official website and Facebook page or at NFA offices nationwide.– VDS, GMA News
