Chiz Escudero defends his 'robotic' way of talking
Senator Francis Escudero sees no need to change the way he talks even after some netizens have poked fun at his "robotic" and monotonous manner of speaking.
Some netizens had a field day with Escudero's "robotic" tone following the Commission on Elections-sponsored vice presidential debate on April 10, where candidates faced off with each other on stage and aired their views on various issues.
Escudero, the running mate of Senator Grace Poe, said "Ganito na ako mula't mula. Hindi ko babaguhin ang sarili ko dahil tumatakbo ako."
"Hindi ako plastic na tao. What you see is what you get," he said at the sidelines of his sortie in General Santos City Tuesday.
The senator said he would rather be criticized for his manner of speaking than be called out for stealing or failing as a public servant.
"Punahin nila ang pagsasalita ko kaysa sasabihin nila bobo ako, palpak ako, magnanakaw ako, okey na rin 'yun," he said.
Responding to criticisms about her husband's voice, actress Heart Evangelista posted a photo on Instagram last week where Escudero's face replaced the smiley icon on the navigation and traffic app Waze. She renamed the app "Chiz Waze."
For Evangelista, the senator's manner of speaking is a "non-issue," saying his work speak for themselves.
"Because it's a non-issue. Wala sa Tono ng salita, nasa gawa! #SayChiz #chizwaze" the photo's caption read. — VVP, GMA News
