QC, Manila, Cebu, Davao, CDO top list of most index crimes —PNP data
Quezon City registered the most index crimes among chartered cities in the Philippines from 2010 to 2015, followed by Manila, Cebu, Davao, and Cagayan De Oro, the Philippine National Police (PNP) revealed on Friday.
Data released by the police bureau showed that out of the country's top 15 chartered cities, Quezon City had the biggest percentage share, accounting for 17.10 percent.
The Philippine Statistics Authority defines index crimes as: crimes which are sufficiently significant and which occur with sufficient regularity to be meaningful." Included in this category are murder, homicide, robbery, theft, carnapping, and physical injury.
In the last five years, Quezon City recorded a total of 65,514 index crimes, including theft (27,838), robbery (18,470), and physical injury (14,035).
This was followed by the City of Manila with 54,689 total index crimes; Cebu City with 38,797; Davao City with 37,684; and Cagayan de Oro City with 31,345.
Davao City also registered the most number of murder cases at 1,032.
Other cities included in the list are Baguio City (27,090); Zamboanga City (20,736); Iloilo City (19,560); General Santos City (17,882); and Bacolod City (14,220).
They were followed by Angeles City (11,980); Makati City (10,897); Iligan City (11,074); Naga City (10,971); and Mandaue City (10,677).
Collectively, crimes registered in these cities totaled 383,116.
In terms of the crimes committed, almost half or 49.3 percent was accounted for by theft with 188,958.
This was followed by physical injury (92,049); robbery (78,605); carnapping (12,598); murder (6,010); and homicide (3,232). —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/JST, GMA News
