TECO 'shocked' by Makati 'chop chop' case

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) on Saturday said it was "shocked and saddened" by a Taiwanese man's gruesome killing of his wife in Makati City discovered Tuesday last week.

"On behalf of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines and the people of Taiwan, we regret to state that we have been deeply shocked and saddened by the recent killing of Mrs. Rowena Kuo and the subsequent mutilation of her body," the TECO said in a statement.

Rowena Kuo's was brutally killed by her Taiwanese husband, Kuo Yuan-Chang also known as Tony Kuo, on suspicion that she had a lover.

The Taiwanese suspect, who has been charged with parricide, placed Rowena's body parts in different locations in their house in Barangay Pio del Pilar.

The crime was discovered Tuesday night.

"The ruthless homicide is abhorrent to this office and the Taiwanese people and actually seldom happened in Taiwan," the TECO said.

It added: "We wish to express our deepest condolences and sympathy to the next of kin of the victim (Mrs. Rowena Kuo) at a time of grief and darkness."

The TECO said it is expecting a "fair trial" of the case. —ALG, GMA News
