College students stage protest rally vs. tuition hikes

Students from different colleges and universities joined a nationwide walkout to protest tuition hikes, according to a report on GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas" on Wednesday.

Among the participants were Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Manila (PUP-Manila) students, who went around the campus while others joined a flash mob as they called upon fellow students to join them.

The students claimed that private schools and universities doubled their profits under the Aquino administration.

In May 2015, the Commission on Higher Education approved an average of 6.48 percent increase in tuition and school fees of 313 private colleges and universities. —Rie Takumi/BAP, GMA News
