Stray bullet-related incidents rise to 54 —PNP
The number of stray bullet-related incidents have risen to 54 in the last 24 hours although no new injuries have been reported, the Philippine National Police said Monday.
Latest data from the PNP show that no injuries were sustained by any party in the three new stray-bullet related incidents that were added to the 51 recorded on Sunday.
Authorities also said that no fatality has been recorded from a stray bullet since police started counting victims on December 16.
The PNP will end its “Iwas Paputok/Disgrasya” campaign for the holiday season on Tuesday, January 5.
Of the 15 stray-bullet incidents where no injuries were recorded, seven involved a bullet hitting the roof or interior of a house.
The number of people injured by stray bullets was still at 41.
Meanwhile, the PNP also reported that nine persons have been arrested due to the illegal discharge of firearms as of 10 a.m.
Seven of the apprehended individuals were civilians, one was a policeman and another was a security guard.
PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor earlier told radio dzBB that the policeman nabbed for firing his gun, identified as Police Officer 1 Francis Nepomuceno, will be facing administrative charges.
The PNP also reported that a total of 23 individuals have been arrested for the illegal possession, sale and use of firecrackers.
It has confiscated several types of illegal firecrackers worth at least P1.3 million. —Xianne Arcangel/ALG, GMA News
