47 injuries due to firecrackers, stray bullets as of Sunday – PNP
As of December 27, a total of 47 incidents nationwide involving firecrackers and guns have been recorded by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
According to the PNP data, as of noontime Sunday, there have been seven firecracker-related injuries and seven gun-related injuries documented at the Situations and Monitoring Room, National Operations Center.
Five of the gun-related injuries were caused by stray bullets. One of the victims is a 3-year-old child from Zamboanga Del Norte, who was hit in the upper right abdomen on December 16. On Christmas Day, a 21-year-old student was hit in the back at house along Rizal Park, Ermita, Manila.
Another complainant, a 44-year-old pool attendant, found the slug of a bullet that pierced the roof of his house in Quezon City.
The remaining two gun-related injuries were caused by the illegal discharge of firearms. Three people were arrested for the same reason and two more are at large, pending investigation.
One of the apprehended suspects is PO1 Francis Nepomuceno Flake, presently assigned at Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City. Flake purportedly fired his gun in front of the Yakitori Dori Bar and Restaurant in Malate, Manila. The rest of the suspects are civilians, one from Leyte and another from Dapitan.
Meanwhile 27 were charged with illegal possession, use, or sale of firecrackers. — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
