Thai PM Chan-o-cha arrives in Manila on eve of APEC Summit

Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha arrived in Manila around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening for the Asia-Pacific Economic Conference Leaders’ Meeting this week.

The Thai leader is expected to promote at the summit quality growth and structural reform; regional economic integration; capacity building and the fostering of micro, small, and medium enterprises; and sustainable and resilient communities.

As one of the world’s largest food producers, Thailand stands ready to share its knowledge and expertise in the area of food production, according to a press release from the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It will be the second time Prayut, Thailand's junta leader, will attend the APEC meeting since he became a prime minister after overthrowing an elected civilian government in 2014.

Thailand, just like the Philippines, has been a member of APEC since 1989.

The APEC leaders’ meeting, a high profile gathering of leaders from 21 economies that include the United States, Japan, Russia, Australia and China, will be held from November 18 to 19 at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The word 'economies' is used to describe APEC members because the APEC cooperative process is predominantly concerned with trade and economic issues, with members engaging with one another as economic entities

For 2015, APEC will focus on inclusive and sustainable growth, looking in particular at the issues faced by small and medium enterprises, as well as trade in services. —NB, GMA News
