How new PHL president's salary will compare to world leaders' after proposed pay hike


The Philippine president’s monthly take home pay of P120,000 is proposed to be increased to around P400,000 or $8,500 (or $102,000 a year starting 2016) according to the Department of Budget and Management.

But even then, the adjusted pay pales in comparison to other heads of state.

For instance, United States President Barack Obama earns $400,000 a year, Stephen Harper of Canada takes home $260,000, and Japan’s Shinzo Abe earns $202,700 annually.

Budget Secretary Florencio Abad said President Benigno Aquino III would not benefit from the adjusted salaries, citing a constitutional provision stating that any increase in compensation should take effect after the expiration of his term.
