VP Binay’s ratings dropped because he left PNoy admin —Palace

The decline in Vice President Jejomar Binay’s trust and approval ratings in the third quarter of 2015 was due to his decision to step down from the Cabinet and lead the opposition, Malacañang said Thursday.

“Makatwiran lamang na pansinin na sa ganyang pagbabago ng kanyang estado from Cabinet member to leader of the opposition ay nagkaroon ng ganyan ring pagbabago sa pagtutuos ng mga mamamayan ng kanyang performance o satisfaction rating,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a news briefing.

Binay in June resigned from Aquino’s Cabinet. He was the presidential adviser on overseas Filipino workers’ (OFW) concerns and chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).

Days after his resignation, he declared himself the leader of the opposition, calling the administration that he was part of for five years "callous and a failure."

Binay is running for president under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

In the latest Pulse Asia survey, Binay's approval rating went down to 43 percent in September, down 15 points from the 58 percent he got in June.

His trust rating, meanwhile, went down to 39 percent in September, from the 57 percent he had in June.

Meanwhile, President Benigno Aquino III retained his 54-percent approval rating. His trust rating was at 49 percent in September, one point below the score he got in June.

Coloma said the survey reflected the continued confidence of the public in Aquino’s governance.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa aming mga boss ang mga mamamayang Pilipino sa pagpapahayag ng kanilang patuloy na pagtitiwala sa pamumuno ni Pangulong Aquino,” Coloma said.

“Pagiibayuhin ang pagpupunyagi para makapaghatid ng pagbabago at pag-unlad sa kabuhayan ng mga Pilipino sa mga nalalabing buwan ng termino ng administrasyon,” he added. —NB, GMA News
