VP Binay felt tired, wanted to be free to criticize Aquino administration – Rep. Binay

Vice President Jejomar Binay resigned from President Benigno Aquino III's Cabinet because he felt "tired" and wanted to be "liberated" from the administration, his daughter said Monday.

In a radio interview, Makati Rep. Mar-len Abigail Binay said her father had been holding back on criticizing the Aquino government because he was part of the Cabinet.

"Alam niyo ho yung parang boxing na lagi ka na lang sinusuntok pero di ka makasuntok pabalik? 'Yun ho ang sinasabi kong pagod. Ginawa po siyang punching bag," Rep. Binay told radio dzMM.

The lawmaker added that the vice president, the opposition's presumptive presidential bet for the 2016 polls, can now freely speak against the administration now that he has been "liberated."

"Ngayon, makakapagbigay sya ng polisiya niya. He can now freely criticize the government kung saan nagkukulang," the vice president's daughter said.

Vice President Binay tendered his irrevocable resignation from Aquino's Cabinet earlier in the day.

It was Rep. Binay who brought her father's resignation letter to Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr.'s office.

The vice president, who is currently facing corruption allegations, served as presidential adviser for OFW affairs and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council chairman.

No grudge vs. PNoy

Rep. Binay said her father's decision to quit his Cabinet posts is final.

"This is voluntary and wala pong puwedeng mag-iba pa ng isip niya," she said.

She added that her father does not hold a grudge against President Aquino.

"Sa tingin ko, personally, hindi kay President PNoy, kundi po sa grabeng paninira sa amin. Doon ho sya naaapektuhan. Hindi ho dahil may galit kay PNoy o may personal na issue kay PNoy," the lawmaker said.

Binay, who was appointed Makati mayor by President Corazon Aquino in 1986, is a close friend of President Benigno Aquino III and his family.

Asked if the vice president had gotten fed up with his fellow Cabinet officials, Rep. Binay replied: "Puwede."

Pressed further if the vice president has bad blood with presumptive administration presidential bet Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, the Makati lawmaker answered: "Sino yun? Joke." — Andreo Calonzo/JDS, GMA News
