‘Clash of Clans’ addiction cost man his live-in partner
A man's addiction to the video game “Clash of Clans” has prompted his live-in partner to end their six-year relationship, a report on “24 Oras” said Friday.
According to “Joy,” her partner “Robert” would spend 16 to 20 hours a day playing “Clash of Clans,” and would even prioritize it over their child.
“Naga-alarm pa siya to check 'yung CoC pero 'yung anak niya hindi niya nach-check,” said “Joy” in the report.
She admitted that her partner have been faithful to her, and that she didn't expect that a video game would ruin their relationship.
“Clash of Clans” is a video game where the play builds and fortifies his camp and upgrades his military strength to engage other players in war.
The game, reportedly a favorite among many gamers, was even mentioned in a recent speech by President Benigno Aquino III.
“Tapusin muna ang mga takdang aralin bago ang raid sa 'Clash of Clans',” Aquino said in a speech before students on April 17, 2015.
According to Dr. Bernadette Arcena, a psychiatrist, video game addiction is a form of escapism.
“In this, ikaw ang nasusunod. In reality, at times hindi ka nasusunod and the reality of life is harder so nagi-escape ka. Para siyang nagdo-droga ka rin. Nagiging dependent ka,” Arcena said.
There are at least 13 million people registered to “Clash of Clans.” —Andrei Medina/KBK, GMA News
